Questions
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser compresses it on your own device. The page is not able to send your image anywhere, and it works offline once loaded.
Is it free?
Yes. No signup, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it.
How does it make the image smaller?
Images wider or taller than 2560 pixels are scaled down to that size, which still looks sharp on any screen and prints well up to about 20 cm (8 in). Then the image is saved at a quality level you won't notice in normal viewing. Tick Keep full resolution to keep every pixel.
Which format do I get back?
JPG stays JPG and WebP stays WebP. A PNG becomes a JPG, which is far smaller for photos and screenshots, unless it has see-through areas: then it becomes WebP, which keeps them.
Is the location removed?
Yes. The smaller copy keeps only the picture: hidden details like GPS location, camera model and date are left out. Photos taken sideways still come out the right way up.
What does "already well compressed" mean?
We only hand back a file that is clearly smaller. If saving it again would barely help, or make it bigger, your original is already the best file to keep.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. On a phone you can pick a photo from your library or take a new one with the camera.
